Performing at the event will earn you 200 extra credit points!
If you register for the event, you are committed to it! If you withdraw, there will be no refund and it will lower your grade by one letter. You will be representing Truman High School and our music program!
What to do before going to the High School:
Dress well (no jeans, sandals or sneakers), eat a good breakfast (bananas help with anxiety, carbs like granola or cereals, protein as in eggs), leave yourself lots of time for travel and to get settled before your performance.
When to arrive: At least 45 minutes before your performance time
What to bring: Instrument/mallets/sticks, your music, judges ORIGINAL score (measures MUST be numbered. No original= no rating), extra supplies (reeds, contact paper for sticky keys, valve/slide oil etc.), bottle of water.
What to do when you get there: Go to your 'section', they will give you your warm up room and performance room. You will have time to warm up before your performance.
Warm- up tips: Go through scales or long tones, run-through small sections of the piece. Play through sections you enjoy and feel confident on and focus on the positives. Try not to practice too long (no longer than 15 minutes tops) so your facial muscles aren’t tired and you won’t get anxious. Tune with a tuner as
After your performance, they will give you a card to receive your medal. Workers will direct you to where to pick it up.
Remember- Judges WANT you to do well, and will give comments to help you improve. They’re there for you! Don’t be afraid to ask questions when they give you feedback. If you receive a 1st division rating, you will qualify to attend State S&E which will be on Saturday March 19th 2016. I will need to know immediately if you plan to attend!
